In the News: TX Death Row inmate removes his own eye

Andre Thomas, who removed his own eye shortly before his trial in 2004, removed his remaining eye and claims that he ate it. Thomas was convicted of killing his estranged wife, his four-year old child, and his estranged wife's 13-month old daughter. After removing his first eye after his arrest, the judge in his trial found that he was competent to stand trial.

Thomas' trial lawyer, Bobbie Peterson-Cate, argues that Thomas is insane and mentally ill and believes "[h]e will finally be able to receive the mental health care that we had wanted and begged for from day 1."
